Year 6
Spring Term 2010
This term year 6 have been inspired to raise money for the victims of the Haiti earthquake. First all of year 6 gave an assembly in the style of a TV news report to highlight the difficulties the people of Haiti are having. Then they organised Haiti day which involved charging children to dress up as a pirate from the film ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ and making cakes to sell. All of year 6 were very proud to have raised over £340 for the Haiti earthquake funds.
Year 6 have once again undertaken a joint community art project with Tiverton High school. This year they are making totem poles in the style of an animal which represents their journey at St John’s. First, the children spent some time at the High school sketching animals and then transferring their 2D image into a 3D image using clay.
Autumn Term 2010
Year 6 have had a fantastic time studying the Victorians.
They visited Knightshayes house and the Tiverton Museum to explore the life and times of John Heathcoat.
Year 6 learnt new skills by creating a textile print in the style of William Burges.
Away from the past, year 6 presented an assembly and displayed work about cyberbullying and how to stay safe when using the internet.
