Year 4
Autumn Term 2010
In Year 4 this year we have spent the first part of the Autumn term studying woodland habitats, with our project “A Walk on the Wild Side.” This culminated in a visit to the woods at nearby Knightshayes Court where we spent a fantastic day as can be seen from the photos below.
After half term our project switched to Asia to study “Patterns of India.” We concentrated on two very different settlements in India to study, one a small rural village and one a large modern city.
In Literacy we shared several stories from other cultures then made story maps in pairs and used these to learn an entire story, which we performed with actions for Key Stage One. Then came the trickier part of writing our own stories in a similar style.
Our Patterns of India theme continued in ICT, Music and Art. In Maths we carried out investigations to find patterns using a variety of different apparatus.
The importance of bright colours and lights in the Indian culture also influenced our Science activities on Electrical Circuits and Conductors. These skills were used to design and make our own torches, which was extremely challenging but great fun!
